Firewise Compliance and Fire Hazard Management

  • For the safety and preservation of the Community, Firewise compliance and fire hazard management are strongly encouraged.

    Please see Sections 3 and 8 of the Rules and Regulations of the Association. Section 3 governs the limited removal and pruning of vegetation in the Natural Area. Section 8 comprises the Fire Hazard Management Guidelines.

    The Fire Hazard Management Guidelines strongly encourage (but do not require) compliance with the Firewise Guidelines promulgated by the Sedona Fire District and other organizations. Sections 3 and 8 of our Rules, along with existing Design Guidelines governing landscaping, offer several mechanisms to facilitate Firewise compliance and fire hazard management. These mechanisms, all requiring documentation and ARC approval (except for dead trees and weeds as noted below), are:

     1. Modification of an existing landscaping plan (existing Design Guidelines);

     2. Selective vegetation removal and pruning in the NAOS (existing Rules, Section 3), and;

     3. Firewise compliance in accordance with the results of an inspection by the Sedona Fire District or an  insurer per our Fire Hazard Management Guidelines.

    Owners may remove, and are encouraged to remove, without prior approval, deadand diseased trees and shrubs and noxious weeds, as well as any non-native, invasive species listed in Appendix C or identified at any time by the Architectural Committee. Please see Sections 3 and 8 of the Rules.

    Please see our Design Guidelines and the rules and Regulations for details. Change Request Forms are available in the “Forms” link of this website.
